Back in 1974, Alain Courtabessis looked out over the largest maritime pine forest in Europe that covers much of the Aquitaine region of southwest France and had the idea of growing plants in bark. What could be more natural than to make the most of a by-product of this one-million-hectare resource? In that instant, Aquiland was born.
This family business develops, manufactures and markets a range of growing media based on composted maritime pine bark.
The idea proved to be a good one, and has made Fertil’Aquitaine, the original brand name, one of the leading products in the horticultural business.
